Web Resources

The Ashfield Library is your gateway to the world wide information network.

Chat with a librarian and get research assistance with the 'Ask a Librarian' service, or get one on one homework assistance with the 'YourTutor' service.
Ashfield Library subscribes to a plethora of online resource databases for your use, some can be accessed from home on your own computer, all you need is a library card.

Web Technologies

Ashfield Library staff have participated in Web 2.0 training and may be able to assist you with a range of tasks and technologies which are appearing online. Patrons may email queries to the library. Some of the new technologies which may assist in navigating the newest web 2.0 enabled sites are availble by creating online accounts. The benefit of this is that the account information is available from any location.

Some examples include RSS (Really Simple Syndication) which can be accessed using an online RSS aggregator like Bloglines.

Social bookmarking sites such as Delicious are also useful. They allow online storage of bookmarks making them available from any PC with an Internet connection. Because the bookmarks are tagged and ranked by other users, patrons may find the best websites to suit their needs more readily. This Delicious link shows the bookmarks chosen by the State Library of NSW.

Library patrons may also find it useful to use online accounts for managing their documents online. Google account holders have access to Google docs which allows the creation and storage of documents. This can be very useful if you are using a public PC and are unable to save documents to the hard drive as is the case at Ashfield Library. Zoho is a similar service which patrons may make use of.
